The Importance of Community

Danville Hotel circa 1891

Community is at the heart of what makes Danville such a special place to live, work, raise a family, and call home.

Our “small-town atmosphere and outstanding quality of life” are about much more than our beautiful neighborhoods, parks, trails, schools, and historic downtown—they are about people. They are built on neighbors looking out for one another, residents volunteering their time, local businesses supporting community organizations, and generations of families coming together at our civic, cultural, recreational, and holiday events. That strong sense of connection and participation is one of Danville’s most valued qualities.

A great community does not happen by accident; it is created and sustained by people who care enough to become involved. Whether serving on a Town commission, coaching a youth team, volunteering for a nonprofit, supporting a local business, helping a neighbor, or simply participating in community events, every contribution strengthens the fabric of Danville. Our responsibility is not only to preserve the special character we inherited, but to pass along an even stronger sense of community to the generations that follow. Danville is more than a place—it is a community, and its greatest strength will always be its people.
